Mid-America’s Ken Smallwood Joins Advisory Board of The Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate at Roosevelt University
CHICAGO (September 16, 2021) — Ken Smallwood, Vice President of Operations, Mid-America Asset Management, has been named to the advisory board of The Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate (MBIRE) at Roosevelt University.
Mid-America Asset Management is the property management arm of Mid-America Real Estate Group, the Midwest’s largest regional retail property services firm, which provides asset management, leasing and investment sales.
The Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate opened its doors in 2002 and created the first graduate degree program in Chicago focused on developing real estate leaders. Roosevelt University’s founding principles of social justice, educational leadership and opportunity for all are the cornerstone of the Institute, which has seen more than 300 students graduate through its Master of Science in Real Estate and MBA/Real Estate programs. MBIRE provides access to industry events, programs, mentoring, professional development, internships and other opportunities for students with the support of industry leaders on the advisory board.
“Serving on the Institute’s advisory board provides a great opportunity to join with other real estate leaders and the organization to encourage and develop diverse new talent,” Smallwood said. “I’m passionate about the need to work on this to help open doors for people and to make our profession even more inclusive and representative.”
Smallwood succeeds Mid-America’s Michelle Panovich, Principal/Executive Vice President, who is stepping off the board as she retires from the company. Mid-America is the only firm on the board dedicated to retail real estate.
Smallwood’s career spans over 23 years of combined real estate management and financial experience. The Illinois native already has ties to the university, thanks to his wife who earned her MBA from Roosevelt. Smallwood received his bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting from Southern Illinois University. He is a licensed real estate broker in Illinois and a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers.
